A week with Sheep

I like showing my work at art fairs mainly as it gives my year some structure. It’s so easy to drift and lose impetus otherwise. I knew I wanted to do something a bit different for the last fair I did. It summed up a week I spent in Northern Ireland this August where I frantically filled sketch books trying to capture the landscape. I was at one with the sheep. I learnt about how to prepare for the elements the hard way (hunger, wet, needing a thermos, materials spilling out of their boxes, cows, no loo etc etc) but it was totally exhilarating. The results show a variety of styles and subjects and I produced a lot of work but I only felt happy with a few things. But I think that’s ok. The pleasure is in the doing, not so much the showing. Time for another trip. When it’s a bit warmer..
